What is emergency contraception?

Emergency contraception is the prevention of fertilization of eggs with the help of drugs. The principle of action is that ovulation is interrupted with the help of the components that make up the selected capsules. It is advisable to use this method in the first hours or days after unprotected intercourse.

Emergency contraception is indicated after:

• Unwanted sexual intercourse without the use of protective equipment;

• Rape;

• Rupture of a condom;

• Missing several pills (hormonal contraception).

Using this method allows you to protect a woman from pregnancy. The remedy does not provoke an abortion, but makes the process of fertilization impossible. The sooner the medicine is taken, the higher the likelihood of its safe effects on the body.

There are two main types of emergency contraception:

• Tablets with UPA or LNG;

• Spiral.

The first method is the most optimal and less traumatic. Most often, the blister contains two tablets that must be taken at intervals of twelve hours or as a single dose. The instructions will indicate the number of tablets and intervals for taking. Follow directions carefully to avoid overdosing. Medicines are suitable for all women of reproductive age, but are not recommended for adolescents whose hormonal background is unstable.
