Factors of pregnancy.

As soon as a girl has menarche (first menstrual bleeding), she gains the ability to motherhood and retains it until menopause (the complete cessation of menstrual bleeding).

There are several factors that influence the possibility of pregnancy

The likelihood of pregnancy increases by the time a regular cycle becomes established - usually two years from menarche, and decreases in the late reproductive period - after 35-40 years.

To understand how long it takes for pregnancy to begin after sexual intercourse, you first need to understand the issues of female and male physiology.

Not every sexual intercourse ends in pregnancy, even in young and healthy partners, because in order for the desired conception to take place, many factors must coincide, namely:

• formation of healthy germ cells in both men and women;

• the structure of the genital organs should allow male reproductive cells to freely enter the female body and reach the ovarian ampulla;

• a woman’s fallopian tubes must be passable so that a fertilized egg can travel from the ovary to the uterus without interference;

• the condition of the uterus should allow the egg to implant (sink, attach) into the endometrium in the optimal zone.

If at least one of these points is not met, conception will not occur.

How and when can you feel the first signs of pregnancy?

Unprotected sexual intercourse during the ovulation period is not a 100% guarantee of fertilization. Looking for signs and studying symptoms from day one is a thankless task. Sensations characteristic of pregnancy appear approximately 10-14 days from the moment of conception, when the blastocyst has attached itself to the uterine mucosa and begins to synthesize the secretion of hormones that are not characteristic of a non-pregnant woman. In particular, the content of human chorionic gonadotropin increases.

By taking an hCG test on days 10-12, you can find out whether pregnancy has occurred or not, and the presence of a fertilized egg and its location in the early stages can be seen on an ultrasound.

What happens after fertilization?

The fertilized cell stays for 2-3 days in the place where it was “overtaken” by the sperm, during this period active division occurs, then the zygote, with the help of hairs and contraction of the tube muscles, begins to move towards the uterus, into the cavity of which it enters after 5-7 days. The corpus luteum, formed at the site of the follicle from which the egg emerged, actively “generates” progesterone, preparing the uterine endometrium for the attachment of the embryo.

Sometimes, during the process of implantation, the fertilized egg damages the blood vessels and a discharge similar to menstrual discharge appears. Such a sign can confuse a woman; it will seem that fertilization has not occurred. Before making hasty conclusions, wait for results confirming or refuting pregnancy.

Fertilization does not occur immediately.

A mature egg is reliably protected by a membrane, which is impossible for even a strong sperm to break through; the efforts of hundreds of “comrades-in-arms” are required, secreting enzymes to destroy the protection. If there is little strong genetic material, fertilization will require insemination with sperm prepared to penetrate the egg.

One sperm reaches the nucleus, after which the protective shell goes into high protection mode and does not allow male cells inside. Nuclear fusion occurs, forming a zygote containing 46 chromosomes with the genotype of a man and a woman. The fragmentation and formation of the embryo occurs after 25-30 hours.

The “losing” sperm do not die immediately, but continue to secrete chemical enzymes for a certain time. There is an assumption that in this way they provide a comfortable environment in the oviduct, so that it is easier for the fertilized egg to move into the uterine cavity. During insemination, a similar favorable situation is created with the help of medication.

How and over what period of time does the sperm reach the egg?

During ejaculation, fertilization occurs thanks to a single sperm, but it itself does not reach its intended goal. Under the microscope, a “team game” is noticeable, when millions of “players” strive to reach the egg: the weak ones die while still encountering the protective flora of the vagina, and the mobile ones reach the ampullary section of the tube. The whole process takes about two hours.

When is fertilization possible and how does it occur?

From the school anatomy course we know that the most favorable period for conception - ovulation - occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle. But not everyone knows that a female cell can “get to know” a sperm closely in a short period of time - after leaving the follicle, the female cell, ready for fertilization, penetrates the fallopian tube and waits for the “meeting” for no more than a day. To prevent the egg from entering the abdominal cavity, the hairs sliding along the fallopian tubes “monitor” signals sent by the endocrine system and, if 24 hours have elapsed, prevent the penetration of male cells, in order to avoid an ectopic pregnancy.

An active sperm can “wait” for an egg for several days if it does not find it in the fallopian tube. Particularly mobile carriers of the male genotype penetrate the abdominal cavity and move chaotically around the organs.

What reduces the likelihood of conception?

It happens that a woman fails to become pregnant within several menstrual cycles. Why doesn't fertilization occur? The likelihood of conception is reduced by unstable periods caused by physiological characteristics or pathological changes.

In some diseases, anovulation occurs - the absence of the ovulatory phase. Due to the disorder, a woman does not become pregnant or even becomes infertile.

Congenital anomalies of the structure of the uterus (bicornuate, saddle-shaped) and obstruction of the fallopian tubes prevent fertilization. Chronic diseases of the pelvic organs lead to the formation of adhesions, and the egg does not enter the uterine cavity.

Hormonal imbalances significantly reduce the chance of conceiving a child, even with constant unprotected sex after ovulation. The causes of endocrine disorder are gynecological diseases (polycystic disease, chronic ovarian diseases), mental stress and fatigue, and taking hormonal medications.

The development of endometriosis is a serious threat to pregnancy. Fragments of glandular tissue grow not only in the uterine cavity, but also outside it. The changes that appear in the ovaries and fallopian tubes disrupt the ovulation process and threaten the woman with infertility.

The male factor should not be ruled out: the ejaculate should contain 100-400 million motile sperm that have the ability to fertilize an egg.

With low quality male gametes, the ability to conceive a child is significantly reduced. The future father needs to lead a healthy lifestyle, eliminating bad habits and eating healthy food.

What increases the chance of conception?

Fertilization after the middle of the cycle is possible if there are accompanying favorable factors. At the planning stage, a woman should give up bad habits - smoking, drinking alcohol, coffee. You need to add balanced foods rich in microelements and vitamins to your diet.

How to cause the release of eggs from the ovary if it does not occur in a girl for several cycles? Doctors perform ovulation induction. Hormonal therapy is prescribed to stimulate oocyte maturation.

The tablets regulate the change of follicle-stimulating and luteal phases. In response to the action of the drugs, the dominant follicle increases in size to 17-20 mm. After this, it ruptures with the release of the egg, but does not develop into a cyst and does not undergo involution.

What to do to increase the likelihood of conception:

1. Correctly calculate the middle of the cycle in any convenient way - an ovulation test, an online calculator or calendar, measuring basal temperature, ultrasound.

2. Have sex regularly and not use contraception. Do not refuse sexual intercourse before ovulation, but make love for pleasure, without focusing on pregnancy.

3. Live a healthy lifestyle: include walks in the fresh air, 8 hours of sleep and physical activity.

4. Strengthen the immune system with vitamins and hardening procedures.

5. Conduct a full medical examination: if diseases are detected, undergo a course of treatment.

6. Eliminate stress on your body.

The first signs of early gestation are a delay in menstruation, a feeling of breast engorgement and an increase in basal temperature.

Expectant mothers complain that they have a tightness in the lower abdomen and a lot of vaginal mucus is formed, reminiscent of the symptoms of thrush. Symptoms appear a week after fertilization and are confirmed by a positive pregnancy test and ultrasound, which will show the presence of an embryo.

In theory, a married couple can plan the sex of their unborn child. Using the basal temperature chart, you need to calculate the period for conceiving a boy or girl. By measuring BBT in the rectum, vagina or mouth, they should catch favorable days.

Let's say you want a boy. When BT reaches 36.5-36.8 to 37.4 degrees, it is the right time for conception.

If a woman is not planning to become pregnant, she should know some important facts. Coitus interruptus is the most popular, but not safe, method of contraception. More than 30% of cases of such contraception result in unplanned pregnancy.

On what days is the probability of fertilization very high?

When a girl notices a creamy, whitish discharge from her genital tract, it means that ovulation has already occurred and the egg is moving towards the fallopian tubes. This is the ideal time for fertilization.

To find out the date of the favorable period for conception, you need to find out the duration of your monthly cycle. It is used to calculate ovulation.

If a woman has irregular periods, a special calculation is carried out. Below is a sample for determining ovulation.

First you need to select the shortest and longest menstrual cycle over the past 6-12 months. 18 is subtracted from the shortest one. The result obtained means the day when the time of high possibility of conception begins.

Let's assume the menstrual cycle is 23 days. Subtract 18 from it and get 5. This means that the ideal period for fertilization begins on the sixth day.

Subtract 11 from the longest cycle. The resulting value means the number when the time of high probability of conception ends. For example, 28 – 11 = 17. The favorable period for getting pregnant ends on the 17th day.

Probability of post-ovulation conception.

What is the possibility of a woman becoming pregnant during ovulation? During this period it reaches 33%. One day before, the chance is 31%, two days before – 27%, and three days before – 16%. This is due to the high viability of sperm.

How many days after oocyte maturation can conception occur? Sexual contact in the second phase of the cycle rarely leads to fertilization, so it is unlikely already 3-5 days after ovulation. During this period, the egg is destroyed and is not able to merge with the male gamete, but in rare cases pregnancy is possible.

Fertilization occurs in the following cases:

1. The ovulatory process in a woman lasts longer than usual - 2 days.

2. The egg is viable, despite the past release of the oocyte from the ovary.

3. Late ovulation. The follicle rupture occurred later than expected due to the lengthening of the first phase.

4. The woman incorrectly calculated the middle of the cycle.

It is impossible to accurately predict whether conception will occur after ovulation, but in a healthy woman this possibility cannot be denied. There have been cases when two eggs were released from both ovaries in one cycle. Fertilization occurs in any phase, even during menstruation.
