Why do pregnant women need regular urine tests?

The risk of kidney and urinary tract diseases during the period of gestation increases. This happens for several reasons:

• Increases renal blood flow and filtration rate.

• The growing uterus compresses the bladder and ureters, making it difficult for urine to flow out.

• Increased levels of hormones relax the muscles of the urinary tract.

• The immune response of the mother during the period of bearing the baby is suppressed.

All this can contribute to the development of infections and increases the frequency of exacerbations of chronic diseases of the urinary system.

We must not forget about such a serious complication of the second half of pregnancy as preeclampsia. In this condition, the functions of many vital organs and systems, including the kidneys, are disrupted. Therefore, regular urinalysis during pregnancy allows you to:

• promptly identify pyelonephritis and other urinary tract infections;

• evaluate the work of the kidneys;

• don't miss the early signs of preeclampsia.

Even small deviations in indicators can indicate the beginning of the development of a particular pathology. The presence of changes gives the doctor a reason to examine the pregnant woman, make the correct diagnosis and provide timely assistance.
