What indicators are evaluated in urine tests, and what do they mean?

In the general study of urine, both physical properties, such as color, specific gravity, transparency, acidity, and the presence of protein, salts, glucose and other solutes, as well as cells that are found in various pathologies in the human body, are determined.

• Due to special pigments, urine has a color from straw yellow to rich yellow. It should also be transparent, but its turbidity occurs in the presence of salts or bacteria. A change in shade is not always caused by diseases: sometimes it is associated with nutrition and the amount of fluid you drink.

• Specific gravity - an indicator that reflects the ability of the kidneys to concentrate urine. A decrease in density is often observed with reduced kidney function, and an increase in severe edema.

• Acidity is the pH of the urine. For this indicator, first of all, you need to monitor people with urolithiasis. The lower the pH, the higher the chance of stone formation.

• Protein, glucose and bacteria should not be in the analysis, and only single leukocytes and erythrocytes are allowed in the urinary sediment.

Expectant mothers should not independently evaluate the results of the analysis and make their own diagnoses. Decryption must be performed by a doctor. Firstly, the specialist thoroughly understands which changes in indicators are the norm during pregnancy, and which are not. Secondly, the doctor always compares the deviations in the analyzes with complaints, examination data and additional examination of the woman.
