Body signals: the color of your urine

We excrete up to two liters of urine per day depending on diet, fluid intake, ambient temperature and level of physical activity. In the healthy person, there will be about seven micturitions per day, the urine should be clear or very pale yellow, and should not be cloudy or foam. Some foods, as well as some medications can affect the color of urine.

For example, apple green urine may be caused by the simple act of eating asparagus. They could then identify a particularly strong smell. This applies even if you ingest multivitamins and medications against depression, allergies, nausea, pain and inflammation. This greenish color can also be recorded after general anesthesia. Accumulation of bilirubin (secreted by the liver) can also cause green apple urine (to check the condition of the liver and pancreas).

A pink or reddish urine can be caused by the presence of blood in the urine (hematuria pointing to disorders affecting the kidneys, bladder or liver)) or simply by certain foods such as beetroot, blackberries or rhubarb . A red coloration of urine is sometimes observed in people deficient in iron or suffering from malabsorption. People taking certain medications for psychiatric or following certain cancer treatments (rich in anthraquinone) may have pink or reddish urine.

Urine dark yellow or orange may indicate that the person is suffering from dehydration, especially if she feels strong. The dark yellow urine can also be caused by a significant contribution of beta-carotene in the diet or by taking this supplement. Some drugs such as rifampin (for tuberculosis), warfarin (anticoagulant) and others to treat cancer may color the urine and feces in orange.

On the other hand, if your urine foam, it may be that you are suffering from an accumulation of bile salts or protein in the urine. Proteinuria also called albuminuria may indicate a kidney disorder or heart, especially in diabetics or people suffering from hypertension. In addition, dark urine color tea and the sweet smell indicates a problem related to diabetes.
If the color of the urine is cloudy and it smells strong, it may be a bladder infection (cystitis). In humans, a red-tinged urine disorder may indicate inflammation of the prostate.
